Description:
Bloom Energy, a fuel cell company and one of Silicon Valley’s most promising startups, is looking for an experienced Sr. Quality Assurance Manager to join its world class team. The QA Manager will serve as an integral part of BE’s Quality and Reliability Team that is chartered to develop, implement and achieve enterprise-wide performance excellence. This position reports directly reports to the Director of Quality and Reliability.
The QA Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing all Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes for a new state-of-the-art alternative energy-producing fuel cell system.

Technical Responsibilities:
- Provides testing support for design validation activities.
- Provides SPC expertise and support as needed.
- Provides specification compliance evaluation in support of Product Development.
- Conducts RCAs, prescribes CA and PA as necessary to prevent recurrence and verifies/validates effectiveness.
- Provides QC inspection, testing and statistical expertise to the enterprise.
- Assists in the Administration of the FRACAS (Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System) Process.
- Develops, documents and continuously improves QC Inspection and Testing Standards. (This includes the development of Inspection Criteria as well as workmanship standards.)
- Establishes QA/QC ‘Standards of Service’ for the organization.
- Assists Supplier Quality Engineering in working with key vendors and subcontractors as necessary to ensure superior material and product quality.
- Develops and systematically analyzes statistical data to determine standards and to ensure product quality and reliability expectations.
- Works in close collaboration with Technical Development (R&D), Manufacturing, New Product Introduction (NPI), and Product Development (Engineering) to develop, conduct and manage QC inspection and/or testing as required.
- Participates in Supplier selection and evaluation. Works cross-functionally to establish quality requirements for external suppliers.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Generates IQC Inspection and Test Procedures (SOPs) and Required Documentation
- Identifies needs and provides QA/QC Training and Mentorship as necessary.
- Establishes and publishes QA/QC Goals, Objectives and Metrics for the Quality organization.
- Designs, develops, implements and continuously improves QA/QC Training Programs.
- Manages a small temporary staff of Interns and Contractors.
- Supports all analyses with data; may develop and implement testing plans to validate material and/or design changes.
- May drive Design and Process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEA/PFMEA); using the output to assess and improve targeted product designs and/or processes.
- Maintains all QA/QC-related records while ensuring that records are easily retrievable.
Organizational Responsibilities:
- Actively participates in cross-functional corrective action and continuous improvement teams.
- Participates in transitioning the organization from a defect detection and correction approach to a proactive defect prevention-based approach.
- Assists in the preparation of a formal ISO 9001:2000-compliant Quality Manual.
- Will play a key role in achieving formal ISO 9001:2000 Certification.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- BS, (preferably MS or Ph.D.), in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science or Physics
- Must be able to establish technical credibility with the Engineering Staff.
- Minimum 10 years of QA experience with 5-7 years of Management together with Engineering experience in complex capital equipment manufacturing, preferably within the electrical power generating market. Working knowledge and experience with System Reliability Engineering would be a plus.
- Extensive working knowledge of and experience with ISO 9001:2000 and QS-9000 (TS 16949).
- Quality Management System auditing experience.
- Strong Project/Process Management skills and capabilities particularly in planning, developing, organizing, and implementing Quality processes.
- Superior analytical and problem solving skills; highly detail oriented

- Sound interpersonal skills and strong ability to establish effective cross-functional working relationships; Ability to effectively participate on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Databases.
- Ability to prepare and effectively present formal reports to both internal and external customers.
- Practical working knowledge and application of SPC.
- Experience with Oracle ERP Quality module preferred.
- Proficiency in the application of DOEs and ANOVA.
- ASQ-certified CQE and Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
- Highly customer-focused (both externally and internally).
