Redfin seeks to hire a chief marketing officer with start-up experience promoting an online consumer service. The opportunity is precious: to build a world-class brand, at a company that is trying to do something huge and meaningful for the consumer. And the problem you would be working on is the ultimate marketing challenge: re-imagining the largest transaction people will ever undertake. This entails adapting an online experience to how people want to engage us, all while educating consumers to work online. Accountable for all Redfin revenue opportunities, the CMO would report to the CEO.
The main responsibilities are:
- Consumer branding: build a national brand that consumers recognize and trust. Most people haven’t heard of us.
- Conversion: re-imagine home-buying and –selling; define our products and processes, and educating consumers to work online. Most Redfin.com visitors hire a traditional agent.
- Online marketing & BD: bring new consumers to Redfin. Nothing we do will bring more visitors to Redfin.com than Google.
- Executive leadership: contribute to all aspects of corporate strategy.
- Team-building: hire, motivate and manage a team. We’ve got a bright, dedicated group.
One area where we need less help is in PR, so folks limited to a PR background might not add as much to what we already have.
We need someone with big brains and a lot of love to give. The attributes of an ideal candidate:
- High standards: Redfin seeks to build a world-class brand.
- Big motor: if you aren’t a competitive monster, the job will overwhelm you.
- Online savvy: Redfin reaches consumers primarily through online marketplaces like Google.
- Street-fighter: you don’t need big money to do something big. Don’t apply if you’ve worked too long at Microsoft, Amazon or an agency.
- Quantitative: we measure everything, and iterate as fast as we can.
- Experience: director-level experience at a startup preferred.
- Service ethic: Redfin has a deep commitment to its customers, employees and investors. You would need to carry that flag too.
Our culture encourages people to think big, move fast, be precise, take chances, have fun, and always put the customer first. We treat everyone with respect.
