User Researcher

You will contribute to our innovation development by helping to understand users’ needs, capabilities, and limitations through literature searches, field research, lab experimentation, and testing. You will be working side-by-side with experienced User Researchers and UI Designers to help us make our product easy and intuitive to use.  We are looking for an energetic, multi-talented and motivated individual to join our User Experience team. This is an entry-level position that will allow you to apply your academic training to real products and problems. You’ll be responsible for designing and conducting usability research on all aspects of the product, and tracking customer response and satisfaction. You’ll be working in cross-functional environments with User Interface Designers, Sales, Beta, QA, Product Marketing, and Engineering. 

Specific responsibilities include:

•    Design and conduct usability tests on our:

  • User Interface
  • Website
  • Hardware

•    Giving presentations of results and recommendations to the User Experience Group.
•    Subject pool recruitment and management.
•    Managing usability lab equipment and procurement.
•    Follow-up on usability issues to insure they are resolved.
•    Writing, fielding, and analyzing questionnaires and surveys, creating graphs and presenting results.
•    Work with UI Designers to maintain and update detailed user interface specs.

Key Requirements:
•    A Masters degree in related field (Psychology, Human Factors, Computer Science, Communications, etc.). Masters candidate/graduate with an emphasis on HCI/HFI coursework and qualitative and quantitative research methods is preferred. 
•    Knowledge of relevant research methodologies (i.e. competitive reviews, focus groups, field studies, usability tests, surveys, cognitive walkthroughs, paired comparisons, structured interviews, contextual inquiry, task analysis, field studies, heuristic review, remote testing, card sorting and content analysis)
•    Good working knowledge of descriptive statistical analysis (frequencies, T-tests and correlations a must, ANOVA and regression analysis  a plus) interpretation of results, and data visualization.
•    Strong Word, HTML, Excel, Powerpoint skills (Visio a plus).
•    Experience with statistical software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, etc).
•    Strong interest in GUI design concepts and emerging technologies.
•    Ability to create wireframe prototypes of new features for usability testing a plus
•    Familiarity with usability recording software such as Techsmith Morae and video editing software a plus.
