Etsy, the online marketplace for handmade items, seeks a full time Vice President of Marketing to join our growing team.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President of Marketing will have responsibility for establishing Etsy as a world-class, mainstream consumer brand. The Vice President of Marketing will oversee the refinement of Etsy’s brand architecture and will own and drive all online and offline marketing initiatives, with an emphasis on driving consumer interest and buying and selling behavior. More specifically, this position has responsibility for economically driving visitor traffic, new customer acquisition, revenue, contribution margin per order, and customer lifetime value through referral and repeat usage. The VP, Marketing will lead and build an appropriately skilled team to carry out these responsibilities.

You will work closely with the Business Operations team and the CEO.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Manage small, existing tenured team, and continue to build a high-performance, data-driven marketing department inclusive of the following functions: Internet marketing, offline marketing, branding, public relations, relationship marketing, customer loyalty, merchandising, sponsorships and strategic partnerships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •      Build Etsy.com into an international brand that consumers recognize and trust and that represents our desire to change the world’s economy.
  •      Contribute to all aspects of corporate strategy.
  •      Build and lead a marketing team.
  •      Drive continued evolution of brand platform and positioning. Act as the internal and external brand champion.
  •      Craft a marketing strategy that engages consumers and ensures appropriate balance of acquiring and retaining new buyers and sellers on Etsy.com.
  •      Manage company’s marketing budget, assuring effective spending and accountability for ROI initiatives.
  •      Lead market research; develop in-depth understanding of Etsy customers and customer segments.
  •      Create data driven culture, including heavy focus on direct response strategies and search marketing to build strong loyalty and repeat usage among users.
  •      Work closely with the Etsy product and engineering teams to drive product marketing and merchandising strategies, as well as act as “voice of the consumer” across Etsy.
  •      Develop a communication plan defining objectives, target audiences, key messaging and tactical mix to build the company’s market leadership position.
  •      Conduct formal and informal market research and analysis and develop and maintain a competitive intelligence database.
  •      Keep entire organization appraised of market trends
  •      Act as a key member of the Etsy leadership team and a key contributor to continued profitable growth.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

The ideal candidate provides:

  •      Experience: A minimum 12 years of consumer marketing experience, including several years in a senior management position for a leading and/or fast growing ecommerce company.
  •      Ideal experience combines training from a leading consumer marketing company, plus additional and relevant entrepreneurial experience in a forward thinking consumer online company.
  •      International marketing experience not required, but a plus.
  •      Track record of superior performance developing and executing effective integrated marketing plans that produce strong business results.
  •      Demonstrated experience in launching new lines of business and managing brand extensions.
  •      Strong analytical and quantitative skills. The ideal candidate will have a keen focus on measurable and metrics-driven marketing initiatives and return on investment for marketing campaigns. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in Web analytics including setting up a team to implement, track and interpret Web analytics.
  •      Dynamic personality and a proven, skilled, media-savvy public speaker.
  •      Excellent managerial and team building skills.
  •      Must be able to thrive in very fast paced, high-stress, work hard / play hard environment.
  •      Highest integrity and respect for co-workers is absolutely required.
